If you haven't had a chance yet, be sure to check out the Turn Out website. Turnout empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people—and their friends and families—in the fight for equality. The goal is to increase community activism and, most critically, the number of voters who support LGBT issues.
TurnOut is a pilot project by the Gill Foundation, an organization that strives to secure equality for all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Gill is collaborating with prominent groups in Detroit, Michigan, and Tampa Bay, Florida, which support the LGBT community – Triangle Foundation, Affirmations Lesbian and Gay Community Center and Detroit Black Gay Pride, Inc., in Detroit, and Equality Florida in Tampa Bay.
“We want to empower the LGBT community and increase activism and participation in the electoral process,” said Andrea Hart, TurnOut project manager of the Gill Foundation. “Our primary goal is to show a quantifiable change in voter turnout in November's general election among Detroit and Tampa Bay's LGBT voting age population and what we call the community's supportive ‘friends and family.'”
While the main focus of the website is to increase LGBTI Voter turnout in these two cities, there is a ton of usefull information on how to 'get out the vote' in the LGBTI community, no matter where you live. So be sure to stop by:
